During my workshop internship at the French Defence Procurement Agency from late June to July 2026, I learned from hands-on manufacturing and contributed to a mechanical design assignment. Its context and technical characteristics are not public; this page covers only my approach and what I learned.
Understand a practical need before proposing a workable solution.
I spoke with the people involved, studied the constraints, and produced calculation notes, simulations and prototypes. Workshop work also gave me hands-on experience with welding, brazing and threading.
Gather requirements from the people who would use and make the solution.
Compare design ideas with calculations and simulations.
Take part in workshop operations and test ideas against real fabrication.
Try an initial build and refine the design using feedback from the workshop.
Conversations with workshop staff give calculations and drawings practical meaning.
An engineering solution must also be possible to make and use for the people who work with it.
